Serac Adventure films
May 25, 2001 history was made when blind climber Erik Weihenmayer stood on the top of Mount Everest. Four-time Everest summiteer Michael Brown of Serac Adventure Films carried the first High Definition camera to the summit and later produced the 'Farther than the Eye Can See' film about the expedition, winner of over 18 international film festival and industry awards. The film was named one of the "The 20 Best Adventure DVD's of All Time" by Men's Journal Magazine, won "Best of Festival" at the Taos Mountain Film Festival and won the "Grand Prize" at the Montreal International Adventure Film Festival.
Later joined by another Everest summiteer - former ExplorersWeb journalist David D'Angelo - Serac Adventure Films have since been on production teams for prime time television shows such as latest Storm Chasers (Discovery), Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod (Discovery) and World's Toughest Fixes (National Geographic).
The crew will teach you everything about extreme film-making. The best gear, editing and story compiling - you'll learn from the Best.

Luis Benitez
A great climber doesn't automatically make for a great guide. Guiding is a unique profession; one that requires equal measures of caution and courage. 6-time Everest summiteer Luis Benitez is one of the world's most experienced high altitude guides. A certified wilderness EMT, there has never been a fatality on any of his expeditions. Hired by Outward Bound in Colorado, he initially conducted courses in mountaineering, rock climbing and avalanche training, as well as teaching skiing, ice climbing and kayaking.
In 2004, the young guide claimed the world’s (non-Sherpa) record for most consecutive summits of Everest: 4 in 4 years. Benitez was one of the guides on blind climber Erik Weihenmayer's 2001 summit and today Luis has summited Everest 6 times, Aconcagua 11 times, and stood on other "Seven Summit" peaks 16 times. In spite of his personal accomplishments, Luis dislikes elitism, which has made him among the most popular guides in US today. The everyday warrior, the underdog who fights against all odds - that's Luis' kind of guy.
On each expedition, Benitez has also been responsible for overseeing the reports, satellite transmissions and webcasts - using edge communications gear. A mountaineering correspondent for ESPN Satellite Radio Network, Luis was also one of the pioneers of HumanEdgeTech's Contact system.
HumanEdgeTech
Within only 4 years (1999-2003), HumanEdgeTech founders Tom and Tina Sjogren summited Everest, crossed the Atlantic ocean and skied to the South Pole and the North Pole back to back in unguided expeditions, bagging a number of world firsts with their achievements. More than records though, communication was always a big part to them. On Everest in 1999, the couple built a Wi-Fi network with transmitters on high camps to allow live dispatches to internet. En route to the South Pole, they pioneered transmissions of pictures over text satellites combined with technology worn on their bodies. En route to the North Pole, the couple and their team created CONTACT satellite software utilizing the then newly released PDA's. Theirs became the first stories posted live to internet by a South Pole/North Pole skiing expedition.
In 2003, HumanEdgeTech set up HQ in NYC and has since supplied more than 1000 expeditions as well as NASA and US and foreign governments; won awards and been featured in books and magazines, including the front page of New York Times The Circuit.
Tom and Tina also founded ExplorersWeb.com; today the largest daily internet news site reporting on extreme expeditions around the world. In only five years, the site has published close to 20,000 stories, gaining an unprecedented insight in expedition dispatching and day-to-day reality. The site - also famous for its editorial independence - has been featured in a number of books and quoted by most international news sources including AP and Reuters.
The team will teach you everything about satellite comms hardware and software, the latest in off-the-grid power, how to work edge tech in difficult circumstances, and - in a tribute to Shackleton - how to tell your story.
